What happens at your appointment
Nothing is done before you have been assessed, and the assessment costs nothing.
Assessment
Type and distribution of acne, what you have already tried, and any medication such as isotretinoin.
Body points, not the spots
Cupping is done on the upper back and related points rather than over inflamed lesions on the face.
Session
Wet cupping is common for acne where suitable. Sterile, single-use equipment throughout.
Herbal and routine advice
Unani remedies where appropriate, plus simple advice on cleansing and diet.

Dr. Saeedul Hasan Siddiqui, B.I.M.S.Hijama for acne · Practising since 1981Hijama for acne — your questions
Do you cup directly on the face for acne?
No. Suction over inflamed, infected lesions risks spreading them. We treat the back and related points instead.
I am on isotretinoin — can I have wet cupping?
No. Isotretinoin affects skin healing and we do not perform wet cupping on patients taking it. Wait until you have finished the course and tell us the date.
Will it help old acne marks?
Cupping may help the tone and circulation of the skin, but deep scarring needs dermatological treatment. We will not claim otherwise.
How long before I see a change?
Skin cycles take around four to six weeks, so judge progress at the second month rather than after a single session.
