What Do Your Cupping Colours Tell You?

Cupping often leaves circular marks on the skin, and patients regularly ask what the colour means. Here’s a straightforward answer based on what we see in clinic.

Why marks appear

The suction draws blood to the surface of the skin, which is exactly the increased circulation the therapy is aiming for. The mark is essentially a controlled, temporary bruise — not a sign that something has gone wrong.

What the shade generally reflects

  • Light pink or no mark: good local circulation, or a first-time session
  • Darker red or purple: more stagnation or tension was present in that area
  • Marks fading quickly (a few days): generally a sign of healthy circulation

These are general patterns, not a diagnostic test — we don’t use mark colour to make medical claims about your health. If a mark hasn’t faded after 10–14 days, or you have any concern about how your skin has reacted, contact us directly rather than guessing.
